Dating Tip Thursday- Know Your Dealmakers

Hello lovey ones! I hope your week is going fah-bulous.  I am personally so thrilled tomorrow is Friday (Fri-YAY).  Today I wanted to continue on to my previous post about Knowing Your Dealbreakers.  Dealbreakers are things that you know you absolutely do NOT want.  I also think of my dealbreakers as things I would not want for my future children and family.

Deal makers are the opposite of that.  What are the things you want in your ideal future partner.  This part is definitely more fun to think about, too.  Be serious about what you most desire in a partner. What will help fulfill you, and your lifestyle, and your future.  Also, do not think your deal makers need to be what your friends, your mom, or your sister think.  Remember that each of us is looking for our own Mr. Right! My Mr. Right and my sister or best friend’s Mr. Right are (thankfully) very different!

I recommend choosing five deal makers.  If your list is too long, you will never be happy.  Remember no one is perfect, but just like when we picked 5 deal breakers (things you absolutely cannot handle in a relationship), there are things you can look for too as you are out dating and mingling with other people.  I know my deal makers include adventurous, kind, likes to laugh/makes me laugh, likes to be outside, and hardworking.  I am so lucky because that is what I have found!

A great friend of mine told me that you also need to then think about what, where and who is my dream partner looking for?  Now I am not sitting here telling you to change for a man. You are undoubtedly wonderful.  However, if you are always at the club with two drinks in your hand, and you want a homebody to cuddle on the couch with, you may be going about this the wrong way! It’s not about becoming someone you are not. It is about putting yourself in the realm of the kind of person you are looking for.  I have seen countless girls become upset that there dream guy is not found at the bar or house party.  On the flip side, I have seen a friend want a really outgoing partner, but they only go to to their house and the bookstore.

What you seek is seeking you.  Your dream partner is out there.  Once you know what you want (or don’t want), you are that much closer to finding them.  In the meantime, you are many steps away from settling for less than you deserve.  Never, ever, settle.

How To Make Your Own Hair Extensions

Hello, my lovely ones! I hope you had an amazing Tuesday!

I am so excited to post to you about how I make my own hair extensions.  I learned about this from a hairdresser friend of mine, and I have finally got it to the way that I feel is good enough for my readers. I am working on growing my hair out very long, and having these really helps me in the mean time! I love getting to play with all the gorgeous long hairstyles while I work on taking vitamins and letting my hair grow and grow.

Clip in hair extensions can run $150.00 and up (with $150.00 being on the cheap end).  I made this set for around $60.00. Below is what you will need to get started:

I purchased the 22″ Hairtensity set (here), hair clips (here), and a pair of hair scissors (similar here). I also got a sewing kit at Walgreens for $5.99.
Next I cut my hair tracks.  You measure three for the back of your head, and a piece for each side of your head.  I also add a small track to help fill in on the side as well. There are videos on youtube if you need extra help on how to measure, like this one here.

Next you will sew your clips in to the top of the pieces of hair.  There are holes already in there so you can easily stitch them on with a thread similar to your hair color you have chosen.  I actually doubled the tracks of hair for the back pieces because I felt like they weren’t thick enough (so unlike the picture, lay two pieces of hair on top of each other and then sew the clip in).  Now on to layering your hair extensions!

First of all, this whole post comes from this ah-mazing video right HERE. She walks you through every step.  I have used this video on two sets of hair (my other set I had had for quite awhile so I decided it was time for some new ones).  First put your natural hair up and away so you don’t cut your own hair! Then clip your hair extensions in in like normal.  If you aren’t sure how, there is a handy guide in the link under her video.
Next find where your natural hair ends.  That is where you will start with your layers.  You will be cutting your layers in a downward angle from where your hair ends.  I actually cut mine a little bit lower since my hair is still growing!
This is a general idea of how they will look after you first cut it.  It will probably look really blunt at first, but you can see how it goes in a downward angle on the whole side of your hair.  I did go back in and smooth out my layers some after, but I didn’t want you to be frightened of how it will look at first!

Once again, this before I smoothed up my layers.  But you can see how it will leave your extensions in this really nice V in the back.  That is really all there is to it! I absolutely love my clip ins! They give me so much oompf, and are easy to care for and easy to wear.
Let me know how this blog post works out for you! I would love any feedback! Also, how do you style your clip ins or long hair?

Love love,

Valentine’s Day Recap

Me and my special Valentine <3

Hello my lovely ones! I had such an amazing Valentine’s day with my love. Disclaimer: Now before anyone out there goes “ugh, listen to her brag!” let me tell you something. I have literally waited my whole life for a man like this.  I have had my share of single Valentine’s Days, and my share of bad relationships.    I spent a long time praying for a love like this, and I am so blessed and thankful for what I have.  I want to share our love so it can inspire others in what love can be, what a man can be.  Also to know that you can be in the worst relationship and know that you need to not settle. I came thisclose to settling several times, and I am so thankful I did not. /end disclaimer

Now back to the recap!

I made us a yummy Valentine’s day breakfast of french toast, peanut butter, strawberry topping, and chocolates! Oh, and of course COFFEE! Shane got me this sweet coffee mug that I love! Oh, and can you find the unicorns in these pictures?

I got all dressed up to go on our zoo date! I know that may sound silly, but I dress up pretty much when I  want to.  Also it was gorgeous outside for the first time in a hot minute, so you better believe I was wearing a maxi! You can see the outfit I wore here.  I also wore my new hair extensions and I loved the way they looked and blended! A tutorial on how I made them is on the way.

We had such a fun day riding the tram, watching the elephants do tricks and getting to visit so many sweet animals.  I absolutely love animals because of their sweet personalities.  I included a few of my favorite shots of these sweet babies!

Shane made me this sweet “Amanda Basket” of some of my favorite things!

These are a few of my favorite things! Sooo perfect!

I made three gifts for Shane. One was a vintage style mason jar photo frame, a set of hot sauce, and a fancy whiskey glass!

Such a wonderful day. I could not be a happier or luckier girl!

Tell me about your Valentine’s Day! Which loved ones did you spend it with? What was your favorite part?

Love love,

Happy Valentine’s Day, My Loves

Happy Valentine’s Day, my beautiful ones! I wanted to take a minute to stop in and let you know how much I love and appreciate all the support you have provided for my first few months with this blog.  Lilies and Lattes is taking off and growing in so many wonderful ways. I’m so appreciative!

I also want to tell everyone that no matter what your Valentine’s Day looks like, fill it with love. Love for yourself, your friends, your significant other, your pet, your family, and whoever loves you. Treat yourself awesome, make yourself your favorite drink. Think about how your future amazing significant other and what they would want you to do and how you would want to treat yourself.

Love begets love. Don’t let it get you down. Love life and enjoy this day you will never get back. That is exactly what I want for you!

On a totally different note here is my dress I got for today! I love treating myself to a new dress for special occasions. Especially one you can wear a bunch of different ways like this one! It didn’t break the bank at all, $24.99 at Rue 21! I’m so in love with it.

I hope you all have a marvelous day!

Simple and Sweet Valentines Day Treat

Happy Valentine’s Day Eve, my friends! Every year I try and pick one crafty thing to make for Valentine’s Day.  Last year I made Shane a dope man basket (like this one here).  I love making gifts for Valentine’s Day because everything is just so cute. Glitter, pink, hearts, kisses, unicorns… pretty much all of my favorite things.

I wanted to make something cute and yummy for my friends at work, and I found this one on Pinterest.  It is very simple, and makes quite a few for less than $10.00.  You could also put your own spin on it, depending on what kind of Valentine’s you want to use.  I used pink marshmallows, but I have also seen really cute ones made with heart shaped marshmallows.  You could even make these for a child’s classroom using mini marshmallows.  Here is what you need:

1 bag of marshmallows
1 package of chocolate bars
1 package of graham crackers
Print out (Free here!)
Baggies (I used sandwich size)
Decorative Paper (to cut out paper hearts, optional)
Glitter and glue (optional)

Pack all of the bags, slip in the cards, and voila! You have some adorable, tasty, and unique Valentine’s!

I hope this helps! What are your Valentine’s Day plans? What treats do you like to make?

January IPSY Bag Review

IMG_0574Welcome to my first and fabulous IPSY bag review! I have been subscribing to IPSY for almost a year now.  They have such a variety of products in their bag each month.  Here is a face of makeup including all the products listed below! I hope you enjoy this post as much as I enjoyed making it for you!

FullSizeRender (39)Here is the adorable bag and the five products up for review!! Love getting my bag in the mail every month! Here we go!
FullSizeRender (40)IMG_0493
1.) treStique Mini Concealer Crayon (in Bisque)
Rating: 5/5
Let me be very honest for a minute.  When I first received this bag, I thought it was another treStique lip crayon which I recieved previously and didn’t super love because it was very light for me and very dry to put on.  I was so thrilled, however, when I realized it was concealer (something I can’t live without, my light skin gets instabags). It is actually infused with coconut oil (another thing I am obsessively obsessed with).  It offers amazing coverage and is very smooth.  The color matched my skin really well. I highly recommend this!

2.) theBalm Cosmetics Mr. Write (Now) (In Jack B. Bronze)
Rating: 3/5
This was the second product that I was not super happy about, as I religiously have worn black eyeliner since about the 7th grade (for better or for worse!).  I have very big and deep set eyes, and I feel like they just sink in if I wear any other color.  I wore it for the picture above, and an easy night out with Shane and I loved it.  Even though it is not black, the bronze was rich and was a nice, much softer look for me that I actually enjoyed.  I wore it to work the next day however, and looked eyeless again by lunch.  I would recommend this for easy days running errands, or hanging with your friends but not necessarily for a very busy day.

3.) pur~lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum
“…with active ingredients like French marine plants, Matrixyl 3000 and Haloxyl”, this eye serum claims to hydrate, firm, brighten, and reduce puffiness.  Hands down, I believe it so far and I have seen fast results. That definitely impresses me as (I mentioned back in #1), I have delicate eye skin.  I also get up very early every day, and stand in the cold, so puffiness is a definite issue for me.  My only complaint is that the sample isn’t bigger!

5.) MARSK Mineral Eyeshadow (in Mudcake)
Rating: 5/5
Take a look at the shimmer in this eyeshadow! It is actually a million times MORE gorgeous and rich than it shows in the picture.  It goes on very evenly, blends and lasts really well. It is also marketed for being 100% cruelty free, so props to that as well.

5.) Hanalei Sugar Lipscrub
Rating: 1/5
While it is very nicely packaged and soothing on the lips, I wasn’t very impressed. It is recorded to have lots of vitamins in it, so if you have extremely dry lips this may be a better choice.  I didn’t feel much of a “scrub” from it, but more of a moisturizing effect.  I find a product like this to be a waste of your money, when you could mix coconut oil with sugar for the same effect.

Favorite: Tie between the eyeshadow and the undereye serum.  I am obsessed with both and would purchase them both again.
Don’t Bother With: Sugar Lipscrub.  Don’t waste your money!! Buy some sugar and vaseline.

Thank you for reading! I hope these reviews help you know these products. I love IPSY and highly recommend investing in your own subcription! It is a great way to try new products.  If you do, let me know which products you love or throw away!

5 Things I Learned From Superbowl 2016

  1. NFL Can Be Fun!
I am definitely not the biggest NFL fan in the world. In fact, I don’t watch it unless it is on in front of me at a friends house. In the words of Shane, “I don’t watch sports ball”.  I love college football (because i’m from Oklahoma, duh), and I love NBA. I have just never got down on NFL.  I had such a fun time gearing up for the Superbowl this year.  I rooted for the Broncos (because they are my BFF Allison’s favorite team), and it was so much fun.  Good food, good friends, good fun. What more could you want?
  2. Say NO To Puppy Monkey Baby
Oh. My. Goodness.  If you have NOT watched the Puppy/Monkey/Baby Mountain Dew commercial, Google it now.  It is 50 shades of DISTURBING.

  3. Say NO To Queso
This one is personal.  Shane made some delicious sausage queso for his work Superbowl party.  So did everyone else.  I like to think I have an iron stomach, but large amounts of queso definitely hurt my tummy, along with hot dogs and beverages. Ouch! Watch out for that cheese, y’all.
  4. Say YES to Budweiser
What have we learned from Peyton Manning (other than awesome work ethic, and a good Christian heart)?  After a long, hard season, go home and drink some Budweiser. Shameless plug or no?
  5. Superbowl Style- Dress Comfy
Uhm, I’m still Amanda, and I’m still going to take this back to fashion.  Have fun, dress comfy.  If you are like me and don’t have any sports team swag, wear something you feel cute and comfy in (preferably stretchy, see point #3).  Be yourself and don’t feel pressured to dress super sporty.  I went for a casual look with tights, a soft grey t-shirt, and a favorite denim jacket.  I went super easy with a messy hairstyle, headband, and simple accessories.

    Not me, but my PINspiration!!

I hope y’all had an amazing weekend. We already survived Monday… GO TEAM!

Top 5 Reasons to Blog

Hello, loves! I am so happy to be back posting again.  I took last week off for some soul searching. I had some really bad news where my teaching job is concerned… They have cut $41 million from our state education funding.  While I am still so blessed to have a job, there was news that was a very bitter pill to swallow. I took the week off to do some evaluating and self-care… more on that later.

On weeks like that, I am always so happy to come to my little corner of the internet and have a place for my own expression. I have blogged off-and-on for years, and have finally buckled down this year.  I would seriously recommend anyone to have a blog.  I love taking time to make posts to not only talk about what I love, but also to let my readers know a little bit more about me.  I have thought very hard about the best 5 reasons to blog.  I have narrowed it down, and here they are!

My Top 5 Reasons to Blog:

  1. Express Yourself
I list this as the number one reason, as this is the number one reason for me.  I spend my days being “Miss L”, which I love, but it’s not all who I am.  I found that I was losing pieces of me in my “adult” world.  I didn’t have friends to talk to about fashion, shopping, recipes, beauty products, and other girly stuff I love (especially after I left my old school, miss you Moriah and Kelly!).  I found a place to show others the way I see the world. Every day I blog is a happier day for me.  A day with purpose to help make this world a little better, and a little brighter, especially for women.  A way for me to shine my own little light.
  2. Find Your Strengths and Passions
The more I write, the more I learn about myself.  I start to notice the things I search out in my personal life.  The things I gravitate to.  The things that I want to post about, and take photos of.  The responses I get.  I am learning something new about myself every day, so of course I recommend it to you too!
  3. Talk to Someone New
I absolutely love when I have new comments on a blog, or become connected to someone who I would have never met before.  It has amazed me how many interesting people there are out there.  People with different thoughts, or similar interests, or some way for us to connect. It’s awesome.
  4. Find Community
Going along with point #3, you start to find a niche of people who are interested in things like you.  People who are curious about the same things, or think the same way.  That can be a hard thing to find and I am so amazed that I found it online.  Go out and find yours, too.
  5. Be a Leader
Whether you know it or not, when you are a blogger, you are a leader.  People find solace and look for answers in the creativity and inspiration you put out into the world.  While that is a responsibility, to me it is also a wonderful feeling.  I have learned so many things in my life.  Some deep.  Some are little tricks and thoughts that help make my life better.  I love the chance to share them with others.  Even this post, I hope helps you on your journey.

Thank you for taking time to read this.  If you are thinking of starting a blog, GO DO IT!  Start the process now.  It is not easy, but it is absolutely worth it.

Dating Tip Thursday: Know Your Dealbreakers

Good evening all! I hope you are ready because tomorrow is FRIDAY!  My week has definitely been a slow one, and it felt like Friday would never come! I am so pumped that it is here, and we have some beautiful weather coming.  My week has been good, lots of relaxing and catching up with friends.

In today’s post I wanted to talk about deal-breakers in dating.  Deal-breakers are things about the opposite sex that you absolutely cannot handle in a relationship.  Knowing those things are important for you to not settle.  I know in my dating career there is a lot of times where I would put up with a deal-breaker because I thought it wasn’t “that big of a deal”.  Truthfully, those things ARE a big deal and can make or break a relationship.  Here is my advice for knowing and using your deal-breakers:

  1. Chose 5 non-negotiable deal-breakers. These need to be things that you absolutely cannot live with.  Things you would not want for your future children.  Things that make you feel uncomfortable or bad about yourself.  Things that harm your well being. Things that would not lead to YOUR future happy relationship  Some of mine were substance abuse (obviously a huge one), someone who is a yeller/aggressive, and someone who is a homebody.  I cannot stand excessive drinking or drug use.  I am very soft and hate yelling so I could not handle a very aggressive partner.  I love adventures and would be absolutely miserable staying home every day so that is also one.
  2. Your deal-breakers will be different from your friends. This was such a hard thing for me to learn. I love my friends so much. I trust their opinions so much.  One day, however, I had to realize that the things I want and the things they want are different.  That seems so obvious but it wasn’t to me.  A lot of girls would love a homebody kind of guy.  Some people wouldn’t mind a guy who was aggressive or yelled, they wouldn’t even notice.  Do not base what you want off of what your friends say.  Of course if it is harmful, please listen and take care of yourself.  But remember we are all chasing our own happiness, and that is going to look different for every one of us.
  3. Be reasonable, no one is perfect. I say no more than 5 deal-breakers because you don’t need a laundry list of things to look at in a guy.  Give them a break. I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect, and he isn’t perfect. Your dream guy won’t be perfect. So make those 5 things count.  Things that would really be hard for you.  Not quirks.  Not how he washes the dishes, or mows the lawn.  I know I wouldn’t want someone to pick me to pieces! So try not to do that to the people you date.  The quirks you see could become the most endearing things about that person.

I hope this helps.  Hands down making my list of deal breakers helped me find my happiness I have now.  I finally quit settling for people who weren’t good for me because I thought it “wasn’t that big of a deal”.  Your happiness is a big deal.  Don’t settle for less!

Love love,

Leopard and Mint

Hello loves!!! I wanted to share one of my favorite work outfits. Dressing nice for work always puts me in a better mood, especially when leopard print is involved.

Another thing I love having in my wardrobe is sundresses. They can be worn all year! I just mix mine with different accessories, like scarves and tights in the winter and big necklaces and wedges in the summer.

Mint and leopard seem so random to mix together, but are one of the best pairings. I love changing it from my normal black and leopard.

I had an awesome day and night today! Lunch with my bae and dinner with my sweet friend Moriah! This week is flying by. I’m also excited because I’m going CAMPING this weekend!!!

What is your favorite work outfit? What are your big weekend plans? Leave me some love!

Love love,
